Writing

Students  are taught writing using the Lucy Calkins Units of Study. Through the writers' workshop process, students learn to write for real. Sharing their own words as they master the Common Core State Standards in writing, students master writing types such as informational text, opinion writing and more. Using trade books by published authors, students establish a clear vision of good writing. Students evaluate their own writing, receive feedback from their peers and teachers and continue to revise their work, constantly improving so that their voice can be heard in the "real" world.

Writing is analyzed by teachers throughout the process and students are taught individually and in small groups, targeting their specific needs as they write.
